If you’ve ever wondered what a real, relaxed, in-home session looks like with older kids, this Bluffdale, Utah “This Is Us” family session is such a great example. Three girls, two dogs, music playing, cinnamon rolls baking—it was the kind of morning that’s full of personality and gives you a true snapshot of family life right now.
Nothing staged. Nothing forced. Just… them.
Kicking Off the Morning With Cinnamon Rolls
We started in the kitchen—because that’s where so much of this family’s life happens. The girls jumped right into mixing ingredients, stirring bowls, and chatting non-stop. Mom bounced between them answering questions, helping, and laughing along the way.
Baking is part of their everyday rhythm (bread, sourdough, treats—you name it), so it felt natural to document it exactly as it happens.
And of course…the dogs joined in. They circled the island, sniffed everything, and stayed close to the action. It felt real, familiar, and very true to life with three kids and two pups.

Music, Piano, and Singing in the Family Room
Once the cinnamon rolls were baking, we moved to the family room where the girls’ creative energy took over.
Mom sat at the piano with each daughter—Jordan focusing, Emma smiling, Lucy giggling her way through the notes.
Then all three girls gathered around their mom and started singing together. Their voices blended the way only siblings’ voices can, and the moment turned into a mix of music, movement, and connection.

Before long, they were dancing through the kitchen to Benson Boone—twirling, laughing, and fully enjoying the moment.

A Quick Spotlight on Each Girl
Upstairs, the girls proudly showed me their rooms—one of my favorite parts of any in-home session.
Jordan shared her lip gloss collection and talked volleyball and homework.Emma curled up in bed with her green blanket and showed me the book she’s into right now (and, of course, the dogs climbed right in too). Lucy brought out her Bluey toys and her Lexi stuffed animal—full of excitement and stories.
These details matter because they’re the things that change the fastest.

Why This Bluffdale Session Stood Out
Bluffdale homes tend to have bright, open spaces, which makes them perfect for in-home lifestyle photography. This family used every corner—kitchen, family room, bedrooms—and stayed completely in their own rhythm the whole time.
They baked. They sang. They danced. They snuggled their dogs. They showed me the pieces of their home that actually mean something to them.
And that’s the heart of a “This Is Us” session—capturing your real life, in the place where it actually happens.
