There’s something special about photographing a family first thing in the morning—before the day gets busy and everyone is still a little sleepy and soft. That’s exactly what made this Lake Village, Daybreak, South Jordan in-home family session feel so natural. The light was beautiful, the house was waking up, and the kids were ready to jump into the day.

This “This Is Us” session was all about simple routines, real interactions, and capturing this family settling into their new Utah home.

Backyard Fire Pit to Start the Day

Instead of easing into things, we headed straight outside. The fire pit was crackling, the air was cool, and the kids were roasting marshmallows—pretty much the dream morning for little ones.

Grace stayed close to Dad, very focused and careful with her marshmallow. Perry bounced between both parents, silly, curious, and excited. Their dog circled the group like the sweetest little supervisor. The golden morning light made everything feel extra warm and cozy.

It was the perfect example of what lifestyle photography does best—documenting what your family loves most.

Coloring and Slow Moments Indoors

Once we came inside, the kids went straight to the crayons. They settled at the table with paper and crayons while the house continued to wake up around them.

Mom and Dad shared a quick, easy snuggle on the couch before joining in the coloring. Nothing staged, nothing forced—just a calm, slow start to the day. The soft indoor light and quiet chatter added such a homey feel to these photos.

Storytime in the Loft

Next, we moved upstairs to their loft reading nook. Morning sun floods this space, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

Grace curled up next to Mom. Perry told his dad all about the many varieties of sharks. The four of them tucked in with a book and settled right into their routine—one of those everyday moments that becomes incredibly meaningful later on.

Rooms That Show Who They Are

Before I left, each child wanted to show me their room. These little tours are often some of my favorite moments during “This Is Us” sessions.

Grace showed me her stuffed animals, cozy blankets, and little comfort items she treasures. Perry proudly brought out his sharks and reptile toys. These details may seem small now, but they’re the things families are always grateful we captured.

Their rooms were such sweet reflections of who they are in this stage—tender, curious, playful, and growing fast.

Why Morning Sessions Work So Well

Morning in-home sessions feel honest and effortless. The light is soft, kids are fresh, and families naturally fall into their normal routines without thinking about it.

This Lake Village, Daybreak family session was the perfect example—connection, play, slow routines, new traditions, and a home filled with warmth.

If you want family photos that feel real and relaxed, a morning in-home session is truly one of the best ways to capture it.
